                            Compass +
                                          (Compass Learning Centre’s Extended Provision)

Based at Stinsford House, Kingston Maurward Campus (Coastland College), Dorset, is our offsite provision that offers opportunities for students who would benefit from learning outside of the traditional classroom. We have developed a pathway for students to get back to learning using a very different environment to a traditional school, exploiting the outdoors, having a relaxed, therapeutic and nurturing atmosphere, using highly skilled staff and at a pace that is flexible to meet the individual's needs.

This provision is for KS4 students who are likely to have been out of education for some time and need a way to reignite a passion for learning in a non-traditional way. Students will need to enjoy being in an outdoor environment with the use of an old converted house for the formal teaching part of the day. Aswell as the formal teaching of English, Maths, life skills & Vocational studies, students will also use the facilities onsite to enrich the curriculum such as mountain bikes, the gym, climbing wall, water sports, small animal enclosure, the farm & the climbing wall to name just a few.

Reviews will take place each term to determine progress and if the setting is the right place for all students. If you are someone who is not keen on the outdoors and potential interactions with older students, this may not be the site for you but please come and have a look before you make your mind up.

Students will have the opportunity to take formal exams, including full GCSE's, in order to gain qualifications that are appropriate for them.

Our main teaching areas, apart from the great outdoors, is a large house where English, maths, life skills and vocational studies will be taught. Resources are provided for the students to be able to learn. The use of ICT is encouraged and equipment is available to students. Pictures of the main house are as shown below.

Transport to and from the venue will be organised by The Compass learning Centre and will typically be a taxi to & from the student's home address or from Compass.

The future-

The long-term plan is to develop this provision as an alternative to a traditional school experience, this will be very different. It can be a place to enjoy learning and be creative, develop relationships, build confidence and learn lifeskills. Formal qualifications can still be achieved including GCSE's.
